    1. What is the relationship between Ranger American Security Systems and ADT?
      Ranger American has developed a partnership with ADT Security Services to provide all your monitoring and service needs. As one of the largest security installation companies in new construction, Ranger American installs the security equipment. ADT, the world's leading security provider, will monitor your home or business.

    2. Am I responsible for testing my system regularly?
      Yes. It is recommended that your system is tested once a month and in good working order. ADT regularly initiates a communications performance test. It's easy to test your system; just call ADT at 1-888-238-7374 and follow the simple instructions. If you find that a part of your system is not working properly, call ADT at 1-888-238-7374 to request repair service.

    3. Can I sign up for monitoring without an analog phone line?
      Yes. Customers that do not have an analog phone line must use a cellular system as the primary communication for security monitoring in order to be monitored. The monthly fee does increase with this system and there may or may not be additional costs for the equipment.

    4. Do I need to register my alarm system with the police department?
      Yes, to receive assistance from the police department, the security system MUST BE registered with the customer"s local police department. It is your responsibility to register with the police department and maintain any permitting fees.

    5. How do I change the people listed on my emergency call list?
      Call the ADT Customer Monitoring Center at 1-888-ADT-RESI (1-888-238-7374) or visit www.MyADT.com with your changes. Have your personal identification code ready in order to make your changes. Make sure to tell everyone on your call list what to do in case they receive a call from ADT.

    6. If someone cuts my phone lines, will the monitoring center be notified?
      Not without a back-up cellular communication device. However, we do offer a cellular communication device sends alarm signals without a conventional phone line.

    7. I moved into a pre-owned home with a Ranger American security system installed, what is the code?
      For security reasons Ranger American does not have any security mastercodes or usercodes on file. Only the previous homeowner will have the code(s). In most cases, without the previous code, it is impossible for Ranger American to reprogram your security system. You have 3 options to utilize your security system: contact the previous owner for the mastercode (the system will not be monitored), hire Ranger American to install and program a new control panel only (which will still not be monitored), or contact Ranger American for a security professional to share with you our monitoring packages which will include a new control panel as needed.

    8. I just bought a new house with a Ranger American alarm system how do I use it?
      Call your local Ranger American office for a free power-up and demonstration.

    9. Would having pets cause problems?
      No, we have a pet friendly motion detector for pets that weigh less than 60 lbs. If your pet weighs more then 60lbs then you have the option of glass break detector(s).

    10. Why is there a 36 month agreement?
      This is an industry standard. However, ADT has a move policy in the event a homeowner sells and purchases another home within the agreement period. Also, ADT has an increase in charge clause (NO INCREASE) in its agreement that would ensure the homeowner monitoring rate does not increase. These are a few reasons why we can install your system at such low cost.

    11. How much does it cost for monitoring?
      Although packages vary from homeowner to homeowner, we can help you determine the right monitoring package for you. Call for an appointment to speak with one of our representatives today.

    12. Who provides the monitoring service?
      Monitoring is provided by ADT. ADT Security Services is America's number one provider of electronic security systems and services. Since 1874, ADT's leadership has been, and still is, based on providing all our customers with uninterrupted peace of mind.

    13. Is my monitoring service agreement transferable if I move?
      ADT provides nation-wide service. Whether you move across the block or into another state, you can easily transfer your current service to your new home.

    14. When (how soon) can I get connected to the monitoring center?
      Typically within 3 to 5 days. A Ranger American representative can meet with you to discuss your needs and set up a timeline suitable for you. Call your local Ranger American office to speak to one of our representatives today.

    15. How does my ADT alarm system work?
      The alarm system may be armed in the "Away" or "Stay" mode. Once the system is activated, each monitored zone has the ability to recognize a violation. Once a zone has been violated, the alarm system then dials ADT and transmits the message through a telephone line or cellular communication device. Once the signal is received, the alarm system will wait to send another message if another zone is tripped. Entering the code and turning off the system will end this process.

    16. My alarm went off accidentally, but I quickly put in the code and shut it off. I expected a call from ADT, but no one called. Why not?
      The system allows a brief period for you to turn off your system before an alarm signal is sent to the customer monitoring center. This gives you enough time to cancel the signal and prevent a false alarm.

    Operational FAQ's DSC Ranger American Installed Security Systems Only

    1. Why is my keypad beeping periodically and/or my trouble light on?
      To trouble shoot:

      Press * 2 on the keypad - what zone lights up?
      Zone 1 - battery back-up is low.
      Zone 2 - transformer is defective.
      Zone 3 - telephone trouble.
      Zone 4 - the system is having trouble communicating.
      Zone 5 - fire system trouble. (see "how do I reset my smoke detectors?")
      Zone 8 - reset the time and date.

    2. How do I reset the time and date on my keypad?
      MOST DSC SECURITY SYSTEMS:

    3. How can I make my keypad chime when the doors open?
      Press * 4 on the keypad - this will enable/ disable the chime feature. If this does not work, call our service department.

    4. How do I change my mastercode?
      Press * 5 on the keypad, enter your four digit mastercode, (40), then your new four digit mastercode, #

    5. My memory light is lit on my keypad, what do I do?
      Your security system has alarmed since the last time you have armed the system!!! Please cautiously check your home and family (with the proper authorities if necessary). Investigate the cause of the alarm. The zone that caused the problem should be designated on the keypad (zone light lit).

      To turn off the memory light, simply arm and disarm the system by entering your four digit mastercode.

      Call for service if needed. If it is a false alarm, the system will need to be serviced to avoid false alarm fines from your police department.

    6. Why are my smoke detectors beeping? How do I reset my smoke detectors?
      If the smoke detectors are beeping and the trouble light on the keypad is not lit, the smoke detectors are most likely not tied into your security system. These smoke detectors would not have been installed by Ranger American. Please contact your home builder or electrician.

      If the trouble light on the keypad is lit:

      Press * 2, if zone 5 is lit then the smoke detector alarmed and needs to be reset.
      In order to reset the smoke detectors press * 72.
      Trouble light should turn off.


      The cause of the smoke alarm should carefully be investigated. If unable to determine cause of smoke alarm, please call for service.

    7. After replacing an exterior door, why is my keypad showing an open zone?
      The door you replaced had a security sensor in it. You will need to call our service department to schedule a technician to install a new contact in your new door. The service department can advise you of our rates.

    8. How do I bypass a zone?
      Press *1 on the keypad, then the 2 digit zone number i.e. 01, 02, then #. Arm system with your code.

    9. What days/times does Ranger American run Service Calls?
      Monday- Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    10. Why does my keypad display "not ready"?
      Your keypad is informing you that the alarm system is not ready to turn on (arm). Common reasons for this are that a door or window is not completely closed, a motion detector may be sensing movement, or a previous alarm has not been cleared out of the memory. Correct the condition and the alarm system will be ready to arm.

    11. If I lose electric power, will my alarm system still work?
      Yes. In case of a power loss, the back-up battery will activate to maintain your alarm protection for several hours.
